Darren is probably as big a DeLorean fan as you’ll ever find.
The DeLorean DMC-12 was only built for three years, 1981, 1982 & 1983 and Darren has one of each year.
All three of his DeLoreans are complete and running. Darren first became interested in the car after
seeing it star as the famous time machine in the movie Back To The Future, which premiered in 1985.
Darren purchased his first DeLorean in 1998 and had the privilege of meeting John DeLorean
and getting collectables autographed by him at a national conference.
John DeLorean was a Michigan native and graduated from Michigan University. He was an engineer for General Motors prior
to founding the DeLorean Motor Company. He died in 2005.
The DeLoreans are rear engine cars and use a Volvo engine.
The bodies are rust-proof, stainless steel and were not painted.
Only the DMC-12 Delorean model was built. The DMC-12 is a two-seater sports car. The unique and distinctive DeLorean look is complimented with
gull wing doors. The shape of the doors requires the windows to be primarilly fixed, and they only have small sliding sections that open.
Sadly, the DeLorean Motor Company filed for bankruptcy in 1982.
There were approximately 9,000 cars built and 6,500 are believed to still be in existence.
DeLoreans have become really neat collector cars and Darren’s are very fine examples.
And as for time machines, Doc Brown stated it best: "The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?"
Nicely Done.
